Talca, city in central Chile, capital of Talca Province. It is the most important city in the central valley of Chile. Agricultural products, particularly wheat, are produced here; it is also a wine-producing area. A large manufacturing center, Talca has distilleries, foundries, a tannery, and plants producing matches, shoes, tobacco, paper, and flour. Destroyed by an earthquake in 1928, Talca was rebuilt and is today a growing city.
