Nova Iguaçu, formerly Maxambamba, city in southeastern Brazil, in Rio de Janeiro State, in the Sarapuí River valley. It is a suburb of the city of Rio de Janeiro and it benefits from its location near the main highway and rail routes connecting Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Diversified industries range from processing of citrus and other local agricultural products to the manufacture of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and machinery.
