Wyndham, town and port in Western Australia, Australia. Wyndham is located on the Timor Sea at the mouth of the King River, where it flows into the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf. It lies at the end of the Great Northern Highway and the Durack Range of the arid Kimberley region. Wyndham was established as a port in 1885 to serve the Kimberley goldfields. The Ord River Scheme has enabled some irrigated arable farming; there is also livestock-ranching. The productivity of the agricultural sector is not particularly high, however. Wyndham is the main collection and distribution centre for agricultural products. Meat is processed at the large Wyndham meatworks (established 1919). There is some tourism, centred around the area's appeal as a modern-day frontier. A noted beauty spot is Five Rivers Lookout, where the Durack, Foresset, King, Ord, and Pentecost rivers enter the Cambridge Gulf.
