Devonport, town and port, Tasmania, Australia. Devonport lies on the north coast of Tasmania, the Bass Strait separating the island from the mainland of Australia, and is a ferry port with services to and from Melbourne. Formed by the amalgamation of Torquay and Formby in 1893, Devonport is one of Tasmania's biggest towns, processing and exporting timber and foods. Overlooking the mouth of the River Mersey into the Bass Strait is a lighthouse which dates from 1889, and nearby is the Tiagarra Aboriginal Culture and Arts Centre.
