Woodville, city in south-eastern Australia, in South Australia near Adelaide. It is officially known as the City of Hindsmith and Woodville and is in the Western Division of Adelaide, of which it is almost a suburb. Woodville borders on the Torrens and Port rivers and Gulf St Vincent, and lies on the railway connecting Adelaide and Port Adelaide. Chiefly residential, the city is also the site of the Cheltenham Racecourse and of a car-assembly plant. It has links with the 19th-century explorer Charles Sturt.
