Wyndham, town and port in northwestern Australia, on the Timor Sea, in the state of Western Australia. Wyndham is located at the mouth of the King River, where it flows into the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf, north of the Durack Range in the arid Kimberley region. Wyndham is the main collection and distribution center for the area's agricultural products, although the agricultural sector is not particularly productive. The Ord River Scheme has enabled some irrigated farming, and there is also livestock ranching nearby. Wyndham has a large meat-processing plant, established in 1919. Wyndham also has some tourism. The town sits at the end of the Great Northern Highway, which originates in Perth, in southwestern Australia. Wyndham was established as a port in 1885 to serve the Kimberley goldfields.
