Heidelberg, city in southeastern Australia, part of the metropolitan area of the city of Melbourne, in the state of Victoria, between the Yarra River and Darebin Creek. The Yarra Bend National Park is nearby. Australia's first important non-Aboriginal painters, including Sir Authur Streeton and Tom Roberts, often worked in Heidelberg in the 1800s.
