Ryde, community in southeastern Australia, in New South Wales State, in the Sydney metropolitan area, on the Parramatta River. The third oldest settlement in Australia, it lies in a vegetable-growing area and has shipyards, brickyards, and potteries. To the north, on the Lane Cove River, is Lane Cove National Park. At various times known as Kissing Point, Eastern Farms, and Field of Mars, the area was laid out by former soldiers.
