Cessnock, town in southeastern Australia, in the state of New South Wales, west of the city of Newcastle. Situated in the lower Hunter Valley of the New England region, Cessnock is surrounded by some of Australia's finest vineyards and acts as a market town for the wine industry. Fruit and dairy farms in the area also market their goods in Cessnock. Tourism is a growing industry, and Cessnock has a significant industrial sector, based on coal mining, aluminum manufacturing, and lighter industry.
