Green Bay, city in northeastern Wisconsin on Green Bay, an arm of Lake Michigan, at the mouth of the Fox River. The seat of Brown County, Green Bay is an important port on Lake Michigan and the oldest community in the state. Principal manufactures are paper products, and the city is an outlet for food products, notably cheese, from the surrounding agricultural region. The city is served by Austin Straubel International Airport.
Educational institutions in the city include Bellin College of Nursing (1909) and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (1965). Also in the city is the National Railroad Museum, which displays what is reputed to be the world's largest steam locomotive. Cultural institutions include a state park with some of Wisconsin's most important historic structures; a zoo with an extensive habitat devoted to the state's native wildlife; and a museum tracing the history of the Oneida people.
