Springfield, town in southeastern Vermont, in Windsor County, on the Black River, near its confluence with the Connecticut River. Springfield is located in an agricultural area marked chiefly by orchards and dairy farms, 108 km (67 mi) south of the city of Montpelier. The town was founded in 1761 and is governed by a manager. Nearby is the natural Falls Bridge, towering high above the chasm into which the Black River plunges.
