Layton, city, Davis County, northern Utah, near Great Salt Lake; settled 1850, incorporated 1937. A gateway to nearby Hill Air Force Base, the chief local employer, the city is a regional trade hub with some food-processing industries. A huge private warehouse and distribution center is adjacent to the city. The Heritage Museum is here. Layton is named for Christopher Layton, an early settler. Population 22,862 (1980); 41,784 (1990); 58,474 (2000).
