Paris, city, seat of Lamar County, northeastern Texas, in the Red River valley; incorporated 1905. It is a commercial and manufacturing center in the Blacklands agricultural region. Manufactures include hygiene products, processed food, farm supplies, steam-generating equipment, and clothing. A junior college is here, and John C. Gambill Canada Goose Refuge and Lake Crook are nearby. The settlement, laid out in the mid-1840s, is named for Paris, France. It was rebuilt after being badly damaged by fire in 1916.
