Kingsville, city, seat of Kleberg County, southern Texas, on Tranquitas Creek; incorporated as a city 1911. The city is a commercial and processing center for a region in which livestock, cotton, and grain are raised and petroleum, uranium, and natural gas are produced. Other manufactures include chemicals, plastics, and pharmaceuticals. The headquarters of the King Ranch, one of the largest ranches in the United States, is here. In the area are Texas A&M University-Kingsville (1925), the John E. Conner historical museum, and a U.S. naval air station. The community was established in 1904 at a railroad station. Population 28,808 (1980); 25,276 (1990); 25,575 (2000).
