Highland Park, wealthy residential town in northeastern Texas, located about 6 km (about 4 mi) north of downtown Dallas. Highland Park is bordered by Dallas on the south, east, and west, and by University Park on the north. The town covers an area of 5.8 sq km (2.3 sq mi). Local entrepreneur John Armstrong began the development of this planned community in 1907, and it was incorporated as Highland Park in 1913. The town was named for its location on a hill overlooking downtown Dallas. Twenty percent of Highland Park's original land was set aside for parks, and the community features luxurious housing, spacious green areas, and a prestigious country club.
