Farmers Branch, city, Dallas County, northeastern Texas, a residential and commercial suburb of Dallas; settled 1841, incorporated 1946. A community college and several corporate headquarters are here. The chief growth of the community began in the late 1940s. Originally named Mustang Branch, the city was renamed to reflect the rich soil of the area. Population 24,863 (1980); 24,250 (1990); 27,508 (2000).
