Carrollton, city, Collin, Dallas, and Denton counties, northern Texas, on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, a residential and commercial suburb of Dallas; incorporated 1913. Manufactures include computer software, semiconductors, and oil field products. The community, settled in 1844, is likely named for Carrollton, Illinois, the original home of the early settlers.
