Trulucks 400 Colorado St. - 512.482.9000 $15.01 - $30 Stone crab flown in daily. Also, a large wine list; samples available in the bar. Cuisine: Steaks Recommended Dishes:Stone Crab and Steak. Tenderloin medallions, appetizers - portabella mushrooms Review:Stone Crab and Steaks They are flown in daily and are awesome. Maybe the best restaurant in Austin. Review:Here's a place you go to dine, not to eat. The only aspect of this place that rivals the outstanding food, is the overall service and hospitality treat you're in for at Trulux. Table visitations from management personnel make you feel like preferred clientele, even if it's your first trip.
Austin's Tamale House 5003 Airport Boulevard - 512.453.9842 Offers a wide selection of design-you-own breakfast burritos, as well as migas and other dishes in a small, off-beat location. Cuisine: Tex-Mex Recommended Dishes:The egg, sausage and potato breakfast burritos. Review:Cheap, Good and Hip In that hazy morning after a late show time, nothing satisfies like a trip to Tamale House #3. The breakfast burritos are the most popular item, and they're so big that it only takes two to fill me up. The restaurant itself is just a large kitchen, with enough room for a line to place orders. Be sure you know what you want, because the lines get long and they'll be able to serve you as fast as you can get the words out of your mouth. A word of warning though, it's hot in the summertime, as there is no air conditioning. But that is a small price to pay to be able to sit on the stairs outside, eating your (usually under $3) breakfast and rubbing elbows with the band you caught last night at Emo's.
Banzai Japanese Restaurant 2120 Guadalupe Street - 512.320.0657 $5.01 - $15 Banzai is a small restaurant that serves Japanese food to a primarily student crowd. There is a large Mount Fuji mural on the wall and two televisions. Cuisine: Chinese Recommended Dishes:Curry Chicken and Sushi Review:Student Haven Banzai is on what UT students (and most of the rest of the Austin population) call the drag. It's a mile stretch of Guadalupe that runs next to the university and is filled with funky boutiques and bookstores. Despite the large painted sign on the top, it's easy to miss while walking along with the hoards of students. Once you are inside, you are transported to Tokyo, where you're near a sister university, filled with Asian students. Professors and students mix in this small eatery. The menu is on the wall and you order at the counter. If you can find a place to sit, your food is brought to you, with chopsticks. I personally love this, and hate the dreaded gaijin fork other restaurants usually bring with your meal. The food is incredible as well. I've brought punk rock bands from Japan in to eat at Banzai, and they verify the taste of home.
Mother's Cafe & Garden 4215 Duval St - 512.451.3994 $5.01 - $15 Mother's is one of Austin's best known vegetarian restaurants. Its extensive menu varies from sandwiches to pasta dishes to tex-mex. The restaurant is large but often busy, featuring both an indoor area and a garden. Some nights feature live music. Cuisine: Tex-Mex Recommended Dishes:Smoothies, Bueno Burger, Mushroom Stroganoff Szechuan Stir Fry Review:Vegetarian -- But Everyone Enjoys It Mother's is a true crossover restaurant. Because of the high-quality of food available, omnivores frequent the establishment as much as vegans and vegetarians. High quality food, always worth the price. Not especially spicy but flavorful. Review:Fun for Everyone The Szechuan Stir Fry is great, especially if you opt for the pasta (cappelini, I think?) at only 50 cents extra. My two teenagers even liked it. And, they do accept major credit cards, not just cash. It's a great place for families, too.
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema 409-B Colorado Street - 512.476.1320 $5.01 - $15 Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is dinner and a movie under one roof. There is a regular menu as well as specials to go with the theme of the night. Recommended Dishes:Pizza Chicken pesto pasta Review:Movies, Food, and Beer The first movie I saw at the Alamo Drafthouse was Rock and Roll High School. It was the beginning of a long and meaningful relationship. I could have beer served to me while watching a movie. That alone was a great reason to go, but you could also pick from a menu, and finish off with dessert. The Alamo Drafthouse also shows UT football games on Saturdays, a treat on their big screen. The attitude is very Austin; laid back and fun. The wait staff does their best to stay out of your way and tend to your needs as soon as they can. Review:Dinner and Beer and a Movie, Oh My!

Amy's Ice Cream 3500 Guadalupe Street, Corp. Office - 512.458.6149 $5 and under Amy's Ice Cream is a local ice cream place with unique flavors and wait staff. Cuisine: Dessert / Ice Cream Recommended Dishes:Peppermint Oreo Review:Funny Hats and Cow-print Amy's Ice Cream is an Austin institution with a few different locations. My favorite is the Guadalupe location, near Half Price Books, Mangia and Toy Joy. During hot summer nights you'll find the place hopping even during the late hours. The wait staff are generally friendly and quirky and know their ice cream. There are several rotating flavors and mix-ins, my favorite is their chilling peppermint Oreo with Junior Mints mixed in. There are several sizes and even low-fat sherbets available. The tables are painted in cow print and there is always a selection of odd hats on the walls. Near the door there is always a good selection of local alternative magazines to browse. There's also a water jug, a welcome thing when you have so much creamy ice cream in your mouth. Be sure to try every flavor, even the Guiness!

The restaurant is small and sparsely decorated. Cuisine: Asian Recommended Dishes:Eggplant Tofu, Hawaiian Taro, Veggie Kabobs, Firedragon Tofu, Sunny Day Review:Delicious Food An amazing variety of dishes here. Vegetarians used to having only one or two choices may be overcome with indecision. Spicy food is just that -- very spicy, but most dishes can be made with a differing degree of spiciness. Servers are friendly, and prompt. Everything is well flavored and deliciously prepared and presented.
Star Of India 2900 W Anderson Ln # 12 - 512.452.8199 $5.01 - $15 A large but comfortable restaurant, perfect for special occasions with affordable but upscale Indian entrees. Cuisine: Indian / Pakistani Recommended Dishes:Chana Pindi Review:Top-Notch Indian

Casino El Camino 517 E. 6th Street - 512.469.9330 $5.01 - $15 Casino El Camino is a bar and restaurant located in the heart of downtown Austin. Cuisine: American Recommended Dishes:Rum and Coke Review:See and Be Seen Casino El Camino is the obligatory Austin hipster hangout. They are famed for huge hamburgers and surly service. The jukebox has earned top honors in local polls for years now. It's smokey and dirty and you just might run into a local rock star. Wear your best hipster uniform, and elbow up to the bar. Don't bother getting drinks from the wait staff though, they're pathetically weak compared to the bar service. Unless you're a big tipper.
