Alice, city in southern Texas, seat of Jim Wells County in an area of large ranches, cotton farms, and major petroleum fields. It is a highway and rail junction and a center of oil and natural-gas production. The enormous King Ranch (334,282 hectares/826,000 acres) is nearby; the city is named for Alice Kleberg, the wife of one of the ranch's owners. Alice was incorporated in 1910.
