Hendersonville, city, Sumner County, northern Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville; settled 1770s, incorporated 1968. Manufactures include motors, fabricated steel, and furniture. A popular outdoor recreation spot here is Old Hickory Lake. Of interest is Rock Castle (completed 1791), the home of early settler General Daniel Smith. Many persons associated with country-and-western music have homes in the city. Hendersonville is named for its first postmaster (1801), William Henderson. Population 26,651 (1980); 32,188 (1990); 40,620 (2000).
