McCandless, town, Allegheny County, southwestern Pennsylvania, a residential suburb of Pittsburgh; settled 1795, incorporated as a town 1974. La Roche College (1963) and a community college are here. The town is named for Wilson McCandless, the judge who handled its separation from Pine Township in 1851. First incorporated as a township in 1857, it grew as a suburb after the opening (1908) of a rail line to Pittsburgh.
