Bethel Park, borough, Allegheny County, southwestern Pennsylvania; incorporated 1950 as Bethel borough, renamed Bethel Park 1960. A residential suburb of Pittsburgh in a former coal-mining area, the community has varied light manufacturing industries and produces steel and computers. Settled in the late 18th century, the community was the site of Couch's Fort, the scene of unrest in 1794 during the Whiskey Rebellion against a federal excise tax. Population 34,755 (1980); 33,823 (1990); 33,556 (2000).
