Ambridge, borough in Beaver County, western Pennsylvania, on the Ohio River. It is an industrial community founded by the American Bridge Company (hence its name) in 1901. The steel mills, closed in 1983, now house small companies manufacturing wrought iron, pipe, and building materials. Located in Ambridge is the Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (1975) and the site of Economy, a communal settlement maintained by members of the Harmony Society from 1824 to 1905; several of its buildings are now part of a historic area called Old Economy Village, one of the best-preserved utopian communities in the United States. Ambridge was incorporated as a borough in 1905.
