Beaverton, city, Washington County, northwestern Oregon, a residential suburb of Portland; platted 1869, incorporated 1893. Located in the fertile Tualatin Valley, Beaverton was formerly mainly an agricultural market center; it now has diversified light industry, including the manufacture of sportswear and electronic equipment. The city was named by settlers for the many beavers found in the area. Population 30,582 (1980); 53,310 (1990); 76,129 (2000).
