Xenia, city, seat of Greene County, southwestern Ohio, near the Little Miami River; incorporated as a city 1834. It is the commercial, distribution, and manufacturing center for the surrounding agricultural area. Government services also employ many people here. Antioch University (1852), Central State University (1887), and Wilberforce University (1856) are located nearby. The name of the community, founded in 1803, is Greek for “hospitality.” Xenia was badly damaged by a tornado in 1974. Population 24,653 (1980); 24,664 (1990); 24,164 (2000).
