Marion, city, seat of Marion County, central Ohio; incorporated as a city 1890. It is an agricultural and manufacturing center; local products include power shovels, road-building equipment, corrugated containers, motor-vehicle parts, household appliances, and processed food. The Marion branch of Ohio State University (1957) and a junior college are here. Marion was the home of President Warren G. Harding; the Harding Memorial, where he and his wife are buried, and the restored Harding home and museum are points of interest. The community, settled in 1820, is named for the American Revolution hero Francis Marion.
