Lakewood, city, Cuyahoga County, northeastern Ohio, on Lake Erie, near Cleveland; incorporated as a city 1911. It is primarily residential and has some light manufacturing industries. Several early 19th-century houses and the Beck Center, a performing arts theater are here. The community, founded about 1805 and subsequently called Rockport township, was renamed (1889) Lakewood for woods along the lakeshore here. Population 61,963 (1980); 59,718 (1990); 56,646 (2000).
