Fairborn, city, Greene County, southwestern Ohio, near Dayton; settled 1799, incorporated 1950 with the consolidation of Fairfield (incorporated 1834) and Osborn (incorporated 1876), from which Fairborn's name is derived. Manufactures include cement and paper products. Important to the city's economy are nearby Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and Wright State University (1964). Population 29,702 (1980); 31,300 (1990); 32,052 (2000).
