Barberton, city, Summit County, northeastern Ohio, on the Tuscarawas River, a residential and industrial suburb adjoining Akron; incorporated 1892. Major manufactures include metal products, chemicals, and boilers. Barberton was founded by and named for the American match manufacturer Ohio C. Barber, who laid out the community in 1891.
