Jamestown, city, seat of Stutsman County, southeastern North Dakota, on the James River; founded 1872, incorporated 1896. It is a trade and transportation center in a grain-yielding area. Aerospace equipment, processed food, and farm machinery are manufactured. Jamestown College (1883) is here. A large concrete buffalo stands outside a replica pioneer village which houses Jamestown's first railroad depot (1880). Population 16,280 (1980); 15,571 (1990); 15,527 (2000).
