Wilson, city, seat of Wilson County, eastern North Carolina; incorporated 1849. It is a major bright-leaf tobacco market and has industries manufacturing pharmaceuticals, textiles, tires, motor-vehicle bodies, electronic equipment, and chemicals. Barton College (1902) and a junior college are here. Settled in 1847, the community is named for General Louis D. Wilson, a state legislator and an officer during the Mexican War.
