Smithtown, unincorporated town, Suffolk County, southeastern New York, on northern Long Island, on Smithtown Bay at the mouth of the Nissequogue River; founded 1665. It is a residential community containing the villages of Head of the Harbor (incorporated 1928), Nissequogue (inc. 1926), and Village of the Branch (inc. 1927).
