Scarsdale, village, Westchester County, southeastern New York, near White Plains; incorporated 1915. It is primarily a residential community. The site was settled in 1701 after the colonial public official Caleb Heathcote was granted title to the area. He called his estate the Manor of Scarsdale after his home district in Derbyshire, England.
