Rye, city, Westchester County, southeastern New York, on Long Island Sound; incorporated as a city 1942. It is primarily a residential center and is adjacent to the town of Rye, which contains some industry and warehousing facilities. Rye Beach and Playland, an amusement park, is in the town. Located in a region settled in 1660, the city and the town were separated from one another in 1904 and are named for Rye, England.
