Rhinebeck, village, Dutchess County, southeastern New York, near the Hudson River; settled about 1700, incorporated 1834. It is a residential community situated in a region producing apples, Angus and Simmental cattle, and anemones. The county fairground, located here, is the site of several craft fairs held throughout the year. The Beekman Arms, said to be the oldest inn in the United States, is also here; the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is nearby in the township of Rhinebeck. The name of the village refers to the Rhine River and the Beekman family, early settlers here. Population 2,542 (1980); 2,725 (1990); 3,077 (2000).
