Oyster Bay, town, Nassau County, southeastern New York, on Long Island; settled 1639, incorporated 1653. It encompasses more than 25 incorporated and unincorporated communities, including Bethpage, Brookville, Farmingdale, Hicksville, Jericho, Massapequa Park, Plainview, and Syosset. In Oyster Bay village are Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, encompassing President Theodore Roosevelt's home, used (1901-9) as the “Summer White House,” and the Roosevelt Memorial Bird Sanctuary, maintained by the National Audubon Society.
