Alfanoose

A small, mostly take-out restaurant, but with 3 stools in the back so one may eat at the counter. On a crowded street south of City Hall, there is often a line out during weekdays at lunchtime. To the right and against the wall, the meat dishes and the falafel are cooked behind the food display of prepared foods. Meat dishes include shawarma (marinated meat), kabobs and kibbeh (cracked wheat with lambe meat). Vegetarian offerings from homous, baba ganouge, grape leaves, foul mudammas (fava and chickbeans), tabouli, mojadara (cracked wheat with lentil and onion), spinach pie, vegetarian kibbeh and more.\n\nBeverages available: sodas, juices, water, coffee, tea, hot chocolate.

Review: Absolutely the Best, Period!
The vegan dishes my wife and I had at Angelica Kitchen were absolutely in the "knock your socks off" category. This place would turn a meat and potatos type into a vegan forever, if you could eat there every day. Wonderful experience. Still savoring it several months later. Would rank their food among the best of any restaurant of any type, anywhere.

Cuisine: Italian
Recommended Dishes: Ravioli Special - Ask for that day's selection
Review: Authentic, Extremely Friendly, What a find!
In an attempt to avoid tourist attractions and chain restaurants while in NYC, I asked a local where the best Italian food could be found. Without blinking, he said "Da Tommaso." Thank God he did. This restaurant, which doesn't seem to get uncomfortably busy, is a gem. Friendly staff, excellent wine list (try the house white: Renati Bianco), and excellent homemade Northern Italian dishes all complement each other extremely well. Our course started with the bruscetta of the day, a wonderfully crisp, fresh salad, the light, delicate breads, and of course the bottle of wine. Lasagne and Ricotta and basil stuffed ravioli. Dessert included tarimisu. A+++. Don't miss out on this quiet, beautiful location.

Hunters
1387 3rd Ave 78th/79th - 212.734.6008
Cuisine: American
Recommended Dishes: Chilean Sea Bass
Review: Very Pleasant Surprise
I visited Hunter's for dinner on a Friday evening. I was a female dining alone, and was made to feel welcome from the time I entered the front door. Although the ambiance tends towards upscale casual, I was very dressed down, having spent the day at a convention at the Javits. The service was impeccable, the food was ulta fresh and very, very well prepared. I noticed that the diners who came in after me were very familiar with the staff and menu, suggesting that they had visited many times before...a good sign. I would highly recommend this restaurant and plan to return.
