Long Beach, city, Nassau County, southeastern New York; incorporated as a city 1922. A residential and resort community, with some light industry, the city is located on a sandy barrier island, bounded on its southern side by the Atlantic Ocean and on its northern side by a channel that separates it from the southern shore of Long Island. New York City is within commuting distance. The Rabbinical College of Long Island (1965) is here. The community was settled in 1869 and was developed as a resort in 1906.
