Depew, village, Erie County, western New York, on Cayuga Creek; an industrial suburb of Buffalo; incorporated 1894. Manufactures include machinery, machine control devices, metal products, textiles, and printed materials. Settled in the late 19th century, the community is named for Chauncey M. Depew, a railroad executive. Population 19,819 (1980); 17,673 (1990); 16,629 (2000).
