Brentwood, unincorporated village, Suffolk County, southeastern New York, on central Long Island. It is a residential community administered as part of the town of Islip. An experimental community, Modern Times, was established here in 1851 by the American social reformer Josiah Warren. Population 44,321 (1980); 45,218 (1990); 45,218 (1996 estimate).
