Willingboro, township, Burlington County, western New Jersey, on Rancocas Creek, in the Delaware River Valley; settled around 1677, incorporated 1688. In 1958, Levitt & Sons, Inc., developed a planned community here, which changed a rural dairy-farming area into a residential center. It is named for Wellingborough, England; however, the township was known as Levittown from 1959 to 1963. Population 39,912 (1980); 36,291 (1990); 36,291 (1996 estimate).
