Westfield, residential town, Union County, northeastern New Jersey, near the Watchung Mountains; incorporated 1903. Points of interest include the Miller-Cory House (a mid-18th-century farmhouse restored as a museum) and an American Revolution cemetery. Settled in the late 17th century, these “west fields” of Elizabeth Town (now Elizabeth) became a separate township in 1794. Growth was spurred by the coming of the railroad in the late 1830s. Population 30,447 (1980); 28,870 (1990); 29,644 (2000).
