Englewood, city, Bergen County, northeastern New Jersey, near the Hudson River; incorporated as a city 1899. It is primarily a residential center and contains some light industry. The Actors' Fund Home (1928), for sick and retired actors, is here. Settled in the late 17th century as part of Hackensack, the community was organized as the township of Englewood in 1871. Population 23,701 (1980); 24,850 (1990); 26,203 (2000).
