Sparks, city, Washoe County, northwestern Nevada, on the Truckee River, near Reno; incorporated 1905. It is a tourist and warehouse center. A railroad museum and a monument to Chinese railroad workers are here. It was settled by residents of nearby Wadsworth, who moved in 1904 to meet the railroad, and named the community for John Sparks, governor of Nevada from 1903 until his death in 1908.
