Mishawaka, city, Saint Joseph County, northern Indiana, on the Saint Joseph River just east of South Bend; incorporated as a city 1899. It is an industrial center with a variety of manufactures, including all-terrain vehicles; its rubber products industry dates from 1868. Bethel College (1947) is here. Mishawaka has large Belgian-and Italian-American populations. Deposits of bog iron ore were discovered here in 1832, and the following year a blast furnace was established.
