Blue Springs, city, Jackson County, western Missouri, near the Little Blue River; incorporated 1904. The city is primarily a residential suburb of Kansas City with some light industry. Missouri Town 1855, a complex containing 21 historic houses from western Missouri that were dismantled and rebuilt in a village setting, is here, and Lake Jacomo is nearby. Founded in 1827, the city is named for the blue springs, which serviced westbound wagon trains, located here. Population 25,927 (1980); 40,153 (1990); 48,080 (2000).
