International Falls, city, seat of Koochiching County, northern Minnesota, on Rainy River, near Rainy Lake, at the Canadian border; settled 1870, incorporated 1910. It is the hub of a vast resort area (hunting, fishing, skiing, water sports) and has large lumber and paper industries. A community college is here and a prehistoric Native American burial ground is nearby. The city is named for waterfalls (now eliminated by a dam) on the Canadian line.
