Trenton, city, Wayne County, southeastern Michigan, on the Detroit River, opposite Grosse Ile; incorporated as a city 1957. It is an industrial community near Detroit. Major manufactures include steel, petroleum products, chemicals, motor-vehicle parts, and building materials. During the War of 1812 the Americans defeated the British here in the Battle of Monguagon. The community was settled in 1816 and became known as Truaxton. About 1847 it was renamed Trenton for the type of limestone quarried in the area.
