Taylor, city, Wayne County, southeastern Michigan, near Detroit; incorporated as a city 1968. Manufactures include machinery, wood and glass products, and building materials. The community, established in 1847 as a township, was named in honor of General Zachary Taylor, later the 12th president of the United States. The community experienced rapid growth from the 1950s to the 1970s.
