Highland Park, city, Wayne County, southeastern Michigan; incorporated as a city 1918. It is a residential and manufacturing center surrounded by Detroit; major products include motor vehicles, motor-vehicle parts, and processed food. A junior college and the administrative headquarters of the Chrysler Corp. are here. Settled in the early 19th century, the community grew after Henry Ford built the first assembly-line automobile plant here in 1910 (which closed in the late 1950s).
